Technical Marketing Support - Networking Products 1990 - 1995
Responsible for providing technical support for IBM Networking products in the LAN and WAN environments. This entailed supporting customers and dealers of IBM for a large product set; bringing the products to market, project planning, installation, guidance and tailored education.
Achievements included
o Acquired expertise and in depth experience of IBM's 82xx LAN product family, including intelligent hubs and ATM products.
o Solely responsible for the launch of X25NET, (a PC based X.25 network product) and its subsequent demonstrations, installation and support.
o Educated and supported IBM dealers in marketing 3174 controllers and devised and produced a number of reference deliverables for clients.
o Gained IBM Marketing Excellence awards for technical support work on network controllers in important customer situations.
o On own initiative set up and maintained HEBE, a multi user dial-up database service giving dealers and customers, access to many thousands of technical and marketing items on network products.
o Delivered networking presentations at external events, including GUIDE and IBM Executive conferences at Oxford University.
Technical Marketing Support - Retail Business 1985 - 1990
Responsible for bringing IBM retail products to the market, demonstrating, installing and providing technical support and education. Worked closely with dealers and customers on products which included the IBM 4680, 4684 EPOS terminals and 4691 terminal for restaurants and public houses.
Achievements included
o System architect of the first telecommuting (working from home) project for IBM UK; designed and implemented the first production system for over 100 users in 1985 This was used by wide range of users from secretarial to the Chief Executive. Continued to provide support and guidance to this project up to 1994.
o Provided online technical database of information for retail dealers (including Q/A) via the IBM DIAL system.
o Gained SE of the Month Marketing award for retail support.
o Developed retail demonstrations for external trade shows.
o Devised and produced retail education classes for users and dealers.
Early Career 1969 - 1985
Started IBM career as a programmer involved in PL/I Development and testing. Worked for a one year assignment in the Netherlands and four month residency in New York Program Development Centre.
Held a three year International support assignment and worked on the first SNA Distributed systems (3790, and 8100) for the Office and Insurance environments.
Developed and delivered numerous classes to audiences throughout Europe.
Became country support specialist of Office Products and worked in the S/36 and S/38 (forerunners of AS/400) areas.
